Scuba Diving Practice at Queenstown Swimming Complex

This past Sunday I ventured to Queenstown Swimming Complex to practice scuba diving. They have a deep pool there for diving, starting from 1.2m with a gentle slope down, before dropping off to 4.5m somewhere in the middle.

I wanted to try on some new gear, including my recently purchased dive com, jet fins and a Halcyon infinity bcd I borrowed from a friend.

In the water, I practiced neutral buoyancy and trim while swimming around, different finning techniques, as well as dive skills such as mask clearing and switching dive equipment with my buddy.

All in all, this session cost $45 because I had some of my own gear. They have gear rental there as well.

Use of pool, tank, weights and weight belt: $30

Full set: $35

Regulator: $15

BCD: $15

Lycra suit: $5

Mask and Fins: $5

There is an entry fee of $1.30 to the swimming complex but you can use your $100 free ActiveSg credits for that. You can sign up online and verify using SingPass or just sign up at Queenstown swimming complex.

The session lasts for as long as the pool is open, and you have enough air in your tank. I was able to stay for 3 hours with air leftover, taking some breaks in between diving. Make sure not to deplete the air in your tank, a good gauge is to stop at about 2o bars.

Opening hours for the diving pool:

Tues and Thurs: 6pm to 9pm
Saturdays: 8.30am to 2pm
Sundays: 8.30am to 3pm

(though until about 11am on Sat and 10am on Sun, the deep side of the pool will be used for UW rugby, which is another incredibly fun sport I tried on Sunday morning!)

You can email for more info about diving practice there 🙂 It’ll be good to drop them an email and grab their contact number before heading down.
